A TEAM NETBALL
Our A team was up against Baldwin's Hill. They put up a good fight but we worked as hard as we could which paid off in a 6-0 win!
All of their players were very good but with Neve intercepting the ball and scoring, George and Sienna playing some great passes to our team we used our team work to overcome the opposition.
Brook, Orla, Grace and Jess all got on the score sheet meaning captain Bella led the team to victory. Well done A team a fantastic team performance keeping you up at the top end of the league.
NETBALL B TEAM LEAGUE Wednesday 7th February
The only team we played were the amazing Halsford Park. Even though we played a good game we lost 9-3.
We were a very strong team however, Halsford Park were stronger, taller and more experienced.
Grace Hill tried so hard, scoring and defending, luckily she managed to score 1 goal.
It was Maddie's first time on the court and she was so good at intercepting the ball with her quick-thinking mind.
It was also Jayden and Jude's first time, they had very good footwork and were amazing at passing, as was Ben, who was also great at marking the players on the other team.
Chloe may have missed her last match but she played like she had been there.
Sophie was incredible as she was superb at marking and tried so hard to score a goal. Thankfully she scored a brilliant one making it our 3rd goal.
GYMNASTICS COMPETITION FRIDAY 2ND FEBRUARY
Leaving school at 9.30, everyone was ready for what was an amazing gymnastics competition. When we arrived at St Paul's Catholic School we were allowed to practice 15 minutes of vault, 15 minutes of the routine and 15 minutes of the hard and challenging body management. We knew that we had got off to a great start.
With our amazing results on all activities - vault, we achieved 57.2 / 60 (our highest of the three), floor - 49.9 / 60 and our last activity, body management left us with an impressive 43.6 / 60. This got us seventh place out of twelve, which is extremely good as this was the first time we had entered this competition! Even though we had some tough competition everyone tried their absolute best!
Going through to the competition room was really intense as we did not know that we had to memorise the body management routine. We started with vault going on to rest and that's when we saw the other schools performing the whole routine. At that moment we made up a song to memorise the moves which was really fun and helped take our minds off the problem.
Working as a team throughout the competition we still had individual achievements. Maddie was great at the floor routine along with Sophie, not holding one thought about their next move! Jude, Jayden and Katie A performed an outstanding vault by landing perfectly, not letting their nerves get the better of them. Leaving body management to last, where Sienna and Neve proved that this difficult activity could be accomplished. As a nice way to end this report we would like to say thank you to:
Alfie for coaching us.
Mrs Branscombe for coming along for support.
All the parents/guardians for transporting us.
Mrs Hemsley and Mrs Excell for helping organise this event and Mrs Smith for helping and supporting us all the way!
On Friday 24th 8 Girls and 8 Boys went to represent East Grinstead in the Mid Sussex finals.
Every single one of our players put in 100% effort and were a credit to the school in terms of sportsmanship and behaviour.
The girls battled hard but were pipped in both games 1-0 and then 2-1. They all played very well together and should be proud of their efforts.
The boys did very well. They won the first game 2-1 and then in the second game beat the well renowned Harlands team 1-0. This put them in the final where they had a real battle on their hands and unfortunately they lost 3-1 but again every single one should be very proud of themselves.
Well Done Crawley Down!!!
On Wednesday 8th February 2017 our Year 5 and 6 netball team played two matches at East Grinstead Sports Club. Every member of the team showed fantastic teamwork and worked well together to achieve two wins! We won 4-2 against Halsford Park and 7-4 against West Hoathly. Well done to all the team who showed respect and sportsmanship to the other teams and managed to score some fantastic goals. Their dedication and hard work in training has certainly paid off!
On Wednesday evening 24 Yr 5 and 6 athletes travelled to Sackville School for our annual Eveque Indoor Sports Hall competition. 9 schools participated over two days, with 12 different events available for the pupils to compete in. Our team performed magnificently, accumulating enough points to achieve a 2nd place on the night, and a superb 3rd place overall. Charlotte Conn set a brave example, competing in 2 of the longest running events back-to-back!
Our increased PE funding has allowed us to purchase Eveque indoor sports hall equipment allowing KS2 to take part in decathlon events indoors during the wet winter months. Thank you also goes to all the adults who helped us transport the athletes to the competition!
Our football squads played their first league matches of the year at East Grinstead Sports club in chilly conditions this week, but we came up against some hot competition!
The A team played Turners Hill first, with Aaron Clancy scoring two goals in the first half. Turners Hill defended bravely in the second half so the score remained at 2-0 for a decisive victory. The B team played next, and after a slight change of fixture, challenged Felbridge for the league points. The team worked really well together shifting the ball out of defence quickly allowing our midfielders and strikers to attack. Aaron B, Thomas S, Oliver S and Cameron K all scored resulting in a superb 4-0 victory.
Then the A team faced regular league winners, the mighty Halsford Park. The match started with Halsford Park under pressure but they rallied and had some well placed shots on goal. Alex V in goal managed the threat well, and soon we were on the attack. Excellent team pressure gave Aaron C the chance to work some magic, and his wonder strike on goal gave us a fabulous 1-0 victory.Thank you to all the adults who supported the team. Mr Barlow's player of the night is Aaron Clancy for his hard work in all areas of the pitch and superb strike on goal.
